In recent years, San Diego's U.S. - Mexico border area has accelerated the pace of improving infrastructure, and highway construction projects and border expansion projects have been launched one after another. The substantial increase in the capacity of crossing the border and the improvement of roads not only encourage a large number of Mexicans to yearn for cross-border consumption, but also facilitate Americans to go south to the border for shopping. In addition, due to the poor security situation in Mexico, the temptation of high-quality and low-cost goods in the major direct selling malls in the border area, and the surge of consumer groups, the future market space in the border area is very promising. This kind of trend has led the owners of retail industry, tourism industry, service industry and even casinos all over the United States to look at each other and investigate how to take a share in this geomantic treasure land.
The most recent example is that Shamrock group, headquartered in Solana beach, spent $4.55 million to buy nine acres of land next to Las America Premium Outlets, which has 125 stores, to build a new retail center. The new retail center, named outlets at the border, will start construction next year.
The American brand direct sales center itself is a successful model. Even in today's grim economic situation, its sales are also amazing. 65% of its customers come from Mexico, which is south of the border.
For Chinese who come to San Diego constantly, it is a hot spot to visit Tijuana. At the same time, with the increase of the Chinese population in Tijuana, Mexico (roughly estimated to be more than 10000), the Chinese in Tijuana have come to San Diego to explore "overseas opportunities". In recent years, due to the fact that the Chinese in Tijuana have taken some risks to settle down in the local area, more and more Tijuana Chinese have adopted the living system of "one day, two countries" by living in San Diego at night, crossing the border during the day to do business, leaving early and returning late. From this frequent border traffic, people are constantly finding that there are more potential border business opportunities to be developed.
